What’s been happening in the shop and sewing studio. Return of our free quarterly pattern swap, Fabric Spring Sale, Fabric arrivals, Piped cushions, Tote Bag & Kids Classes.
The return of our quarterly FREE PATTERN SWAP is happening on the first weekend in March. Saturday 4th 10am – 3pm and Sunday 5th March 10am – 2pm.
How it works: Bring along any unloved pattern you have, these can be free ones from magazines, ones you have used, or unused. If they have been ‘cut to size’ then please mark on the envelope which size it’s cut to. Pop them in the boxes on the dedicated table. You do not have to take patterns along to be able to take part. There are more than enough patterns accumulated over the past swaps, that you are free to take without dropping off.
A great way to plan out your next summer wardrobe or build up your wardrobe staples. Use the opportunity to try out patterns you may not have bought.
Reuse, recycle and give an unloved pattern(s) a home!
Along with the Pattern Swap we will be holding a Spring Clearance 50% OFF sale on selected fabrics. There are some Dashwood Studio cottons, denims, polyester dress fabrics, jerseys, brushed cottons and soft furnishing herringbone fabrics. – Perfect for trialling your pattern swap finds!
With the schools having a couple of days off this week, Lexy taught the kids classes. They all made the Sketchbook and Pencil Roll. With the choice of 2 fabrics Hobbies or Woodland, it was a great success. Lots of happy, smiley faces, and everyone did a fabulous job of sewing them.
Louise taught the piped cushion class, great for those who have used a machine but still feel like they are a beginner. Everyone chose the same black piping – we can see why! It frames the fabric beautifully. Louise also sewed a Freya dress (pattern from the Tilly and the Buttons Stretch Book) in our teal knit jersey, looking fabulous!
Fabric arrivals were some quilting weight cottons from Dashwood Studio. There’s a colourful patchwork alphabet design, great for a quilt top (or backing) in the photo it’s been made into a round play mat. A couple of fabrics from the Strawberry Tea collection ~ teapots & chickens ~ you may have seen our tea cosy sewing instructions [here] and whilst stocks last the supply kit is [here] . Coast, as you can imagine, has lovely calming coastal colours and themes. Seagulls, fish, sardine tins (we love these!) and a patchwork style which technically isn’t a panel but you could use is at one.
And last but certainly not least, Saturday morning was the absolute beginners Tote Bag class. So many of you have enjoyed this class since we first held it back in 2014 and it’s still a great entry to sewing. With 4 fabulous new Sewists they all completed their umbrella fabric bags. Not once did the stitch unpicker come out! Well done to them all … can’t wait to see where this leads you to.
