Owners: Fiona & Marice

Hello!  We are the team behind The Wee Fabric Shop, Fiona and Marice, usually found stroking our fabrics and encouraging you to get your sew on!  Our main focus is dressmaking, with the lack of fabrics being available here, in the Highlands, there was a real need for “fabric you can feel!”  Officially opening the shop doors in July 2018, we have never looked back, the sewing community is ever growing, and what a happy, kind and social bunch you are.  Thank you for supporting us, we love what we do, nothing makes us giddier than seeing your creations and that wee smile on your faces.

In 2021 we won Best Independent Shop in Scotland in the British Sewing Awards hosted by Sew Magazine and again in 2022!  … and again in 2023 in the Craftworld Stitch Industry Awards hosted by Love Sewing magazine. Winning these awards has been an honour, especially as it was our customers votes which won us these top awards.

In 2023, as there was no independent yarn shop, and having requests from our customers, we began to introduce yarn to our stock. Whilst our range is still considerably small, we have chosen basics and mixed with some interesting special yarn too, both for crochet and knitting projects. SIrdar and Stylecraft cover both basics and some special yarns, and from September 2024 we are really excited to be stockists of Rowan’s new MODE range.

Our aim:  To bring you beautiful fabrics, something different to catch your eye as well as the basics.  Whether you are sewing your wardrobe, for the family or a special occasion.  New fabrics are delivered approximately 2 weeks, helping us keep a fresh look, enabling customer requests and following trends and seasons.  Unless it’s a basic item, we do not repeat buy, keeping your look more exclusive.

Patterns: We proudly stock Independent Patterns, giving us a fantastic range for all body shapes.  From the wonderful Cashmerette, creating patterns for curves to our shop favourite Jalie whose patterns come in toddler to adult sizes – perfect to sew for all the family.  From beginners to improvers, not just for women, children and menswear too.

Haberdashery:  is selected with quality in mind, we love to seek out the helpful tools and gadgets to make life easier. We only stock products we would use ourselves, from brands such as Gutermann, Prym, Milward and Stephanoise.

Classes: Our absolute favourite part of our wee business is the classes, sharing and helping you along your sewing journey.  Whether you are in it to learn, meet people or refresh some skills, it’s a wonderful way to spend your time and good for the soul.

Fiona‘s Story:  Having tried probably every craft under the sun (sounds familiar eh) Fiona took up sewing in 2014, and hasn’t looked back.  Discovering the real joy that sewing your own handmade wardrobe brings, creating clothes you will love and that actually fit!  With a speciality in sewing stretch fabrics and elastics, which grew from sewing her own underwear,  she is a fountain of knowledge, which she shares passionately. A lover of animal prints, black and the 90’s, Fiona has 2 kids, and Daisy Dog the Border Terrier, she is also the sweet voice you hear on the other end of the shop phone.

Marice‘s Story:  You may already know Marice from The Sewing Room, teaching folk to sew since 2014.  An excitable, patient, tutor who loves to share her sewing knowledge, always picks the brightest fabrics and can be found arranging everything into rainbow order, especially the pin cushions!  A Mum of 2, and dog Mum to Louie the Cavalier King Charles and Leia the Cavapoo, loves a sewing challenge, pattern matching and working out how to help you with your sewing dilemmas.

_ _ _

We really look forward to welcoming you to our happy place, whether you’re just starting out, or a long term sewer, come in to chat sewing, feel some fabric and find your ‘sew-jo’.  We do come with a warning though, we tend to get over excited and sewing can become very addictive.
