Tuesday Evenings 12th, 19th & 26th March 2024, 6-8pm (3 wks – 2 hrs a week)
A fantastic wee course for those who are new to sewing, scared or a little rusty. You’ll learn to sew in a relaxed atmosphere, where it’s okay to make mistakes! We’ll show you how to fix them. You’ll learn lots of tips and tricks, that we’ve picked up over the years, helping you to find your own sewing style. Each week you’ll complete a project whilst learning new techniques.
- Tote Bag – french seams. Getting used to handling the fabric in the machine, speed and tips to sew in a straight line, as well as securing seams.
- Bunting – consistently accurate seams, pinning, when and how to trim seam allowance & using binding.
- Zipped Purse (you’ll create 2 of these!) – inserting zips & adding lining.
These classes are for those who have never sewn before (or not in years and are a little rusty) and who would like to try your hand at sewing without committing to a course. It is a relaxed, fun class, where we want you to enjoy your experience. You will not be expected to know anything about sewing. Perfect to grab a friend and spend some time learning something new!
- During the sessions you will be diving straight into sewing.
- Learning the basics about stitching and constructing seams to create each project.
- Ask as many questions as you like as you sew along, we want you to find your sewing style, there’s always more than one way to get the same outcome.
- Everything is provided for you, the fabric will be pre cut, ready for you to enjoy sewing. (Fabric may not be the same as the photograph)
- Use of our equipment and sewing machines.
- Measuring gauge tool to use and take home so you can carry on making more totes!
- Instructions to take away.
- Tea and coffee will be provided.

- WHERE: sessions takes place in the studio space at The Wee Fabric Shop, 21 Tomatin Road, Inverness. IV2 4UA.
- WHAT TO BRING: Nothing, everything is provided. You take home 3 fabulous projects, instructions to recreate at home and one of our favourite tools ~ the measuring gauge.
This is NOT a lesson on how a sewing machine works, threading or its various stitches. For that we offer a ‘Love Your Machine’ session, which is a 1-2-1 with your own sewing machine, you would contact us directly to arrange a date and time. You DO NOT need to know anything of this to join in the Beginners Classes, as all the threading and setting of the machine will be done for you, so you can just get on with sewing!

IMPORTANT : From 2021, classes are no longer refundable. There is a lot of work to be done before you arrive at your class. Preparation and time, materials sourced and paid for, fabrics cut to size, instructions written / printed out, thread matched, bobbins wound, and Tutors paid. Class sizes are small and everything is costed. For this reason we are also unable to transfer your place to another class. You may send someone in your place, just let us know their name and contact details in advance please. If you are unable to attend, do contact us as soon as possible 01463 263007, with exceptional circumstances we may be able to arrange something but this is not part of the booking terms and conditions.
